Spiked chain rule for 3.5 D&D?

alright so if I have a character that's using a spiked chain he can use it as a reach weapon and also a melee weapon. So if an enemy wants to get adjacent to my character doesn't he get an attack of opportunity? my spiked chain has a total threat range of 10 feet right? and can it be used as a double weapon?
