Why does Jesus use the tactics of a mobster?

Non-Christians often say that they don't believe that Jesus was divine, but that He did preach a good message. But can a good message ever include threatening to throw people into an eternal "lake of fire" if they don't do what one says? Would not a truly virtuous moral teacher exhibit sound reasoning to support what he promotes, rather than the threat of an infinite punishment for finite misdeeds? Jesus uses exactly the type of strong-arming tactics that we would ociate with a modern-day mafioso. If His story was not legend -- and the corroborating evidence for this cat is weak, to say the least -- common decency requires us to deny Him the label of good moral teacher and render Him guilty of celestial thuggery.
