How do i change the anitfreeze in my '02 chevy impala?

My low coolant level light came on my dash. I popped the hood. I took the cap off the said "dex-cool" I poured in anti-freeze that says it works on all makes and models and can be mixed with dex-cool. Did I pour the anitfreeze in wrong compartment of engine?
